We will not be afraid.

Live Smart and Safe.  But Not in Fear!

Current reports reveal what has been long suspected: The COVID-19 virus is going to be around for the foreseeable future.

Many of our Seniors have lived through Pearl Harbor, the Second World War, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and 9/11. Unlike those events, however, we are currently facing an enemy that cannot be seen. This can lead to a different type of fear, and different types of stresses.

As Sir Winston Churchill famously said, “The only thing we have to fear is fear, itself.”  This profound statement holds true, even in the face of the current pandemic. Informed knowledge can go a long ways towards alleviating much of those fears.

All current data on the COVID-19 virus shows that our Senior population is most at risk; however, but there are some very simple protective steps which can be taken that can make a big difference.

According to the current CDC guidelines, the current coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is transmitted through droplets in the air, and from person to person. Knowing that, the following steps are advised to minimize contracting the virus:

1. Use social distancing. Avoid meeting face-to-face with others whenever possible, and if that cannot be avoided, maintain a distance of at least six feet apart. Should that not be possible, (due to assistance requirements or other reasons), turn your face away from the other person to avoid direct contact from airborne particles.
2. Cover your mouth and nose with a mask or face cloth whenever encountering another person. This minimizes the potential for inhaling or exhaling airborne particles. Others, including yourself, may not show symptoms and still be contagious.
3. Throw used tissues immediately in the trash and wash your hands.
4. Wash your hands regularly and avoid touching your face throughout the day.

Life can and should be enjoyed through the harshest of times, and there are ways to do so, safely.  And that is precisely we shall do!
